I \"had\" Crohn\'s Disease for over 10 years. 18 inches of my small intestine was affected which caused me to vomit regularly. Knife stabbing stomach aches - the worst.

I took action against it with major diet change. No more animal foods forever. Juicing raw fruits and vegetables. High potency B-Vitamin suppliment. No more junk food or pastries or candy of any kind.

I used a food diary the first year to watch what I could eat until I could eat it. I started out slow.

Little by little, I started adding non-animal food back into my diet. Also used high-phytonutrient fruit juices such as Noni, Acai, Mangosteen and Goji juices to get as much antioxidants as possible.

Year by year passed and fortunately, I have no more Crohn\'s symptoms.

It took perserverance and dedication all without drugs or surgery. (My case was not as drastic as some cases can be).

Almost 6 years now and can eat normally and pretty much got this thing under control.

I learned some hard lessons how important my diet was and what I needed to do to help my body restore its health.

I am a Remicade infusion nurse and it cannot ever be self administered. It is an infusion which requires and IV to be started and infusion to be run through a pump at a regulated rate. Due to possible life threatening side effects, one must be monitored by a health care professional trained in ACLS. The amount of time it takes for the mediaction to take effect varies for everyone. Some can feel the effects after the first infusion and for others it may take three or more infusions.

I had the worse year ever with crohns , i lost 50kgs in that period, tried every drug out for crohns nothing helped till my specialist put me on remicade, he said i would not know myself after the second infusuion, and wow was he right!! i used to go toilet 15 to 20 times a day, now im only going twice a day, only bad thing is i am now putting on weight, but as far as feeling good since remicade..i recommend it to anyone that has severe crohns like i did. Its a miracle drug and as far as side effects i have none.

I was diagnosed with Crohn's a little over 2 years ago and have gone thru the normal medicinal treatment of Asacol, Azothiaprine and Prednisone, which placed my Crohn's into remission for a short period, but it has now come out of remission stronger and more active than ever. My doctor has now suggested the "Infusion/Remicade" treatment for me, but after researching Remicade I am not convinced that I want to proceed, one reason is that I am also diabetic, which I understand extremely complicates matters. In place of the Remicade treatments I am strongly leaning toward trying acupuncture, and/or a posible visit to the Mayo clinic in Scottsdale for their opinon.

I have had crohns for 20 years, and have found I have developed allergies to all kinds of foods, esp. milk products, beef, and nuts. Are there any alternatives I can eat like some cheeses that can provide the proper proteins?

I have a severe and aggressive case of Crohn's. Every doctor I've seen has told me to AVOID fresh fruit, vegetables and high fiber items because they are too hard to digest and cause more pain and diarrhea. I've tested this theory and found it to be true for me. The only fresh fruit I can digest easily is melons and all of my vegetables have to be cooked and mashed or provided by drinking V8.

Hi Christine
I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I would suggest that by the very fact you've been reading up about crohns and have left a comment here you're a wonderful friend and are in fact doing an awful lot. As your friend is limited in going out perhaps you could arrange for friends to visit her at home. Find out what books and magazines etc she would enjoy and take those round. Diet can play a large role in managing crohns - has her doctor suggested a specific diet for your friend? Have a look at the following post for more information:

Hi Donna

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It is not unheard of for crohn's disease to be misdiagnosed, however it is usually mistaken for IBS or other intestinal conditions not the other way around. But if you are unsure about what your doctor has told you I would suggest going back and discussing your concerns or alternatively seek a second opinion.
Best of luck.
